The CassidyCam was live for two weeks in May of 2008 while we awaited the birth of Rebecca Maye! It was on from about 7pm to 6am Eastern Time every night until she was born. After that, we did live weekly updates throughout the remainder of the year.
For you techie-geek types, here’s how we set up the video feed:
– Logitech QuickCam Orbit AF (no Logitech software installed, just the camera on its own)
– Tripp Lite USB 2.0 16-foot active extension cable (kind of works like a powered USB hub… you have to have an active cable for any USB runs over 15 feet)
– 3 year old Sony Vaio PC laptop with Sprint EVDO broadband wireless card
– live video hosting for free on ustream.tv
You might be wondering why we didn’t just embed the video like we do with our YouTube movies. Well, turns out you can’t embed a ustream feed on a WordPress.com site. You can on a WordPress.org blog, but we didn’t set ours up that way… something to think about if you want to do this yourself!
